About the Artist Talk.

Artists Fay Ray, M.A. Guevara & James F. Garcia join TMR Executive & Artistic Director César García-Alvarez for a conversation about home and the way it manifests in their respective practices. These intimate conversations will take place on Instagram Live via TMR’s account (@themistakeroom). The recorded conversation will exist on TMR’s Instagram platform for viewing after the event.

About the Artists.

Fay Ray  received her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 2002, and her MFA from Columbia University in 2005. She has exhibited at galleries within the US and internationally, including Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles (2016 & 2018); Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris (2016); Louis B James Gallery, New York (2016); JOAN, Los Angeles (2015); Honor Fraser Gallery, Los Angeles (2012); and Gagosian Gallery, Beverly Hills (2011) and New York (2007), among others.

M.A. Guevara is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work comprises the fields of portraiture: painting, writing, and film. He is the author of the short stories Peacock, Gusano, and Featherless, His writings are held in the collection at Los Angeles Contemporary Archive. Guevara has shown work with Dirty Looks, Coaxial, Tom of Finland Foundation, and Gamma Galeria Guadalajara. He is a recipient of Human Resources-LA’s 2020 time, money, space residency.

James F. Garcia is a photographer from El Monte, CA, where he currently lives. His work aims to use the complex relations between family, the body, and the urban landscape to explore themes such as class, desire, and identity. In 2019 he made his debut by having his work featured in a project organized by Paul Mpagi Sepuya for the Whitney Biennial.. Recent solo exhibitions include Structuras, No Moon LA, Los Angeles (2021); Mi Lucha, Queens, Los Angeles (2019).
